Mrs. Annie Jo Hatley Ford, is a native of Leesburg, Texas. She was born to the late Burl Hatley and Cora Mae White Hatley on April 25, 1941. Her early years in school was in Leesburg, Texas. Her family moved to Pittsburg, Texas, and this is where she continued her education. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1959.
Annie Jo became a member of Leesburg C.M.E. Church as a youth. She later joined St. Beulah C.M.E. Church in Pittsburg, Texas, where she remained a faithful member until her illness. She also joined the choir and attended Sunday School classes. Annie Jo began her career as an nurse's aide at Pittsburg, Nursing Center in Pittsburg, Texas. She continued working in the medical field at East Texas Medical Center and later for Dr. George Fuller. After leaving the clinic, she became a bus monitor for Pittsburg Independent School District until retiring August 21, 2018.
Annie Jo was an active member of the Douglass Alumni Association and Douglass Alumni Choir. On a personal front, Annie married Hillard Lamar Ford. To this union two children were born.
Annie Jo survivors include: Two sons, Mel Ferrer Ford and Victor Lamar Ford, both of Pittsburg, TX; one sister, Bertha Lee Smith of Pittsburg, Tx; two nieces, Angela P. Smith and Rhonda D. Holloway, both of Pittsburg, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Our Annie Jo will truly be missed, especially for her funny mottos, but this one stood out the most: (How are you Annie Jo - "Fine and dandy, sweet as candy)."
