Deacon Bobbie Fort age 90 passed away to be with the Lord on Sunday July 21st, 2024. He was born on April 24th, 1934 in Gilmer, TX to the late Jeff Fort and Vinez Wright Fort. He was the second oldest of four brothers and was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Bethlehm school was were he attended to receive his education. At a young age he decided to leave school and join the Navy. In July 1951 he attended the Naval Training Center in San Diego Califorina. Upon graduation he was assigned to the USS Richard B. Anderson DD786. This began his career in the Navy and traveling abroad. He has been from the North Pole to the South Pole, has visited various countries in Asia, has visited countries in South America and has travel across the equater at least 3 times. During his Navy career he has participate in several missions. These missions involved testing of bombs, stealth recovery of an abandon ship, assisting in recovery of a lost atom bomb. For these missions he has received several ribbons and awards.
While he was stationed at the Patuxent Naval Air Test Station, he met his wife in June 1966. At a local social event he introduced hisself and they ended up marry not to long afterwards on October 28th, 1966 and enjoyed 44 years together.
Upon becoming a civilian he was fortunate to work outside of the country and then worked at Howard University where he later retired.
He is survivied by his daughter, Jerri Fort; grandchildren, Marcus Fort, Jessica Lewis, Darrian Lewis (Shawnbria); his sister-in-laws, Ruth Bush, Frances Wright; and 5 great-grandchildren, Houstyn Lewis, Liam Lewis, Parklyn Lewis, Madelin Fort, Zayne Morrow; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who knew and loved him.
