Cortines K. Elkins known as “Scratch” was born October 2, 1984, in Mt. Pleasant Texas to Kenneth Wayne Lee and Vera Lou Elkins-Lee. Cortines graduated from Daingerfield High School in 2003 with a passion for football as his favorite teams were the Daingerfield Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, and most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Cortines loved his family and friends and once you were in his circle he would care for and protect you as if he had known you his entire life. Everyone will tell you that if you are around “Scratch” you are guaranteed to laugh and have a great time. Through his determination, strength, and the miracle of prayer, Cortines received a heart transplant in 2014 after battling heart failure. After being a recipient of a new heart, he vowed that he would live life to the fullest as God had given him a second chance in life, and from that point on, he did.
Cortines was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Lou Elkin-Lee, and a host of Aunts and Uncles.
He is survived by his father Kenneth Wayne Lee, wife Chandra Sheppard; two daughters Sa’Miyah Elkins and Aubree Elkins; one son Cor’Darious Elkins; a bonus daughter Taylor Duffey and two bonus sons Trevon Jones and Mason Frazier; one sister Tiffany Rushing; three brothers Marshall Lee, Ray Charles Moore, and Bryan Lee; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
