Debbie Montgomery Obituary

Debbie Delois Roney Montgomery transitioned peacefully on May 18, 2025, at 9:19 a.m. Born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, on February 8, 1959, she was the eighth child of Rev. Charlie and Vivian Delois Peoples Roney.

Debbie graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1977, where she excelled in basketball and athletics. Her passion and dedication to teamwork would later define her successful teaching and coaching career.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education with a minor in Spanish from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M – Commerce) in 1981. A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Debbie began her career in Karnack, Texas, and later joined Pittsburg ISD in 1998 as a Spanish teacher, serving until her retirement in May, 24, 2024.

Debbie married Kennith Montgomery, and from this union, two beloved children were born: Tiffani Roney of Pittsburg, Texas, and Kennith Montgomery II of Dallas, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Charlie, and Vivian DeloisRoney; siblings: Charlie Ann Roney Ray (Vernon), Alvin Roney, Barry Roney, Lisa Roney Ray (Carl), Deborah Roney; and nephew Kevin Benson.

Debbie is survived by her loving children, Tiffani and Kennith II; grandchildren: Taniya Johnson and Tamiya Roney of Pittsburg, and Jagger Kaiden Frederick of Ft. Worth, Texas; siblings: Gerraine Benson (Fred, deceased), Joanette Bryant (Dr. Sullivan), and Charlie Roney Jr.; special former sister-in-law Darlene Jones Roney; godchildren AntwonRobertson and Amarion Matthews; beloved sister Pamela Montgomery Walker Slaughter; adopted sisters/friends Sebrena Brown Moton and Ruthanne Byrd; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will cherish her memory forever.
