Edward Earl Spencer, son of the late Exall Spencer and Odessa White Spencer, was born on May 25, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, at Parkland Hospital. He was the second youngest of nine children. For seventy-seven blessed years, Edward lived his earthly life until he was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
At the age of six, Edward and his family moved to Pittsburg, Texas. There, he joined St. Beulah Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and began his early education at Frederick Douglass Elementary and High Schools. Gifted with athletic ability, he excelled in track and football, proudly graduating with the Frederick Douglass High School Class of 1967.
Following graduation, Edward Earl chose a path of service. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served with courage and commitment during the Vietnam War. Rising to the rank of E-5 Staff Sergeant in Communications, he embodied the Air Force core values of integrity, service before self, and excellence in all he did. A decorated veteran, Edward retired with honor, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and sacrifice.
In later years, Edward enjoyed the fellowship of fellow veterans, cherished moments with his extended family, and the simple joy of watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys. His life was one of faith, service, and resilience—a steady reminder of the strength found in humility and dedication.
Edward’s family celebrates his legacy as a “Life of Sacrifice and Service.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Exall and Odessa Spencer; his daughter, Roshaunda Spencer; grandson, Ryaunta Blount; four brothers, Charlie Byrd Jr., John Arthur Byrd, Bobby Ray Byrd, and Henry Louis Byrd (Tommie); and sister, Katy Ruth Byrd (Eddie Lee).
Left to treasure his memory are his two sisters, Ora Lee Blacknall Payne and Diane Rogers (the late James Rogers); his brother, Anthony Spencer (Marsha); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, fellow veterans, and friends who will forever honor his life and remember his gentle spirit.
Though Edward has departed this earthly life, his memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
