Ernestine Simms Starling

Mrs. Ernestine Simms Starling, age 103 of Winnsboro, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, peacefully at her home under the watch of her caretakers Rev. Gregory & Marsha Duffey. She was born on October 12, 1919, in Pickton, Texas to the late Tommie and Darnetta Templeton Simms. Ernestine Starling joined in matrimony with William R. Starling on February 11, 1950, and to this union one child was born, William T. Starling.

Ernestine attended Dunbar School until her senior year where she graduated from Marlin High School. After graduation she attended Texas College where she earned her Bachelors and Master's degree in Education and a minor in French. In 1942 she became a teacher at the Dunbar School of Winnsboro, Tx. Ernestine Starling served the Dunbar School for 27 years and she served the Winnsboro Independent School District as teacher for 16 years for a total of 43 years in education.

She joined Tranquil Baptist Church at an early age and served as the pianist, an active missionary member and church secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Starling, sister Ruby Lee Simms and parents Tommie & Darnetta Simms.

Survivors include one son, William T. Starling and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
