Lafayette “Butch” Turner was born on April 28, 1943, to the union of Winfred Turner and Iner Marshall, in Pittsburg, TX.
Lafayette received his formal education from Douglass High School, Pittsburg, TX. He graduated with the Class of 1961. After graduation, he moved to Hawkins, TX to attend Jarvis Christian College. While there, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. During the time he was in college, the military was pursuing him to join. He later joined the United States Army, after graduating college. He served his time and earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was also a Veteran of the Vietnam War. After serving time in the military, he then moved to Springfield, IL to pursue his dream of being a State Trooper. He attended Illinois State Trooper Training Academy, graduated, and became a State Trooper in Kankakee, IL for 10 years. After serving his time as a State Trooper, he decided to move back to Pittsburg, TX, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn and they married. He went to work at Lone Star Steel and retired after being there for 30 years.
Lafayette was a family man. He had an infectious smile and a laugh that would warm your heart. Family was everything to him. He was a member of the Rocky Mound C.M.E. church as a child growing up and would later become a member of Myrtle Springs C.M.E. church where he served faithfully until his health failed. He also was a proud member of the Camp County Male Chorus.
Lafayette “Butch” Turner departed this life on Thursday, December 8th, 2022. He was proceeded in death by his father, Winfred Turner and stepfather, Harry Marshall, three sisters, Frenchie Nell Wilkerson, Debra Alexander, and Harriet Marshall.
He leave to cherish his memory; his lovely wife, Carolyn Turner of Pittsburg, TX; mother, Iner Marshall of Springfield, IL; son/grandson; Shaketrick Turner of Pittsburg, TX; son; Jimmy Turner (Huong) of Harker Heights, TX; four daughters; Shanequa Carrington of Pittsburg, TX; Kimberly Gray(David) of Mt. Vernon, TX; Patricia “Patty” Turner of Mt. Vernon, TX; Tina Poole(Steve) of Talco, TX; granddaughter/baby girl, Shania Smith of Pittsburg, TX; sisters; Carolyn Turner of Dallas, TX; Delores Newman of Springfield, IL; Diane Turner(Espritt) of Mt. Pleasant, TX; Jackie Turner of Mt. Pleasant, TX; Sharon Peoples of Longview, TX; Gail Marshall(Barney) of Edmond, OK; brothers; Eric Turner(Charlene) Jerry Turner of Pittsburg, TX; John Turner of Phoenix, AZ; Keith Turner(Jolanda) Lawrence Turner of Pittsburg, TX and Marvin Turner(Regina) of Gladewater, TX
