Lurlean Suggs Obituary

Sister Lurlean Suggs was born to the union of Earn and Teresa Walker of Pittsburg, Texas on February 22, 1946. She was preceded in her death by her parents, three brothers Earnie Lee Walker, Jerry Don Walker, William Clint Walker, and three sisters Barbara Louise Henderson, Carolyn Jean Rogers, and Teresa Nell Smith.

At an early age, Sister Suggs began her walk of faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Pittsburg, Texas under the leadership of the late Reverand Cleo Mitchell. Lurlean graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in 1963 and would later attend Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas.

Lurlean and Willie Lee Suggs married on February 10, 1969, with a cherished union of 55 years. Sister Suggs worked for Red River Army Depot in Texarkana, Texas as a mechanic for 28 years before retiring in 1995. 

Sister Suggs united with Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church over 25 years ago where she served under the leadership of Reverend Patrick Lloyd. Sister Suggs served as the church secretary, dedicated usher board member, and was a member of the Sister 2 Sister Women’s Ministry.

Sister Suggs volunteered at the voting poll sites for a number of years where she checked in voters and helped ensure they understood the voting process. She was best known for her delicious pound cakes and had a passion for serving others. Sister Suggs was a pillar in the community and continued to serve when she was able prior to her passing.

Sister Suggs is survived by her devoted husband Willie Lee Suggs of Pittsburg, Texas, daughter Lurlean White of Pittsburg, Texas, son Jerral Walker (Georgia) of Pittsburg, Texas, son Tony Walker (Tammy) of Celina, Texas, son Willie Evans of Ore City, Texas, brother Anthony Ray Walker (Yolanda) of Caddo Mills, Texas, brother Antonio Williamson of Desoto, Texas. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
