Maurice Duane Mitchell Sr.

Maurice Duane Mitchell, was born on July 7, 1944, in Pittsburg, Texas to the late Perry and Rosella Mitchell. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior after uniting with Pine Bluff First Baptist Church, Pittsburg, Texas. 

Maurice was a graduate of Frederick Douglas High School, Pittsburg, Texas Class of 1964. On October 29, 1994, he united in Holy Matrimony to Helen Herrington.  Later in life, he united with St. Beulah C.M.E. Church, Pittsburg, Texas where he served as a steward, trustee, and sang in the choir. He also served in the Camp County Male Chorus. April 2017, he retired from Pilgrim’s Pride, Pittsburg, Texas. Maurice loved visiting people in the community, and gardening. He departed this life on April 4, 2024, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

Maurice will forever be remembered in the lives of his wife of 29 years, Helen Mitchell, stepmother, Mary Henderson, son, Garnett Mitchell, bonus son, Roy Shields (Kenya), stepchildren Chris and Keysha Hopkins, twin sister Marie Mitchell, brother, Leggett Mitchell (Iris), brother-in-laws, Reverend Bobby Mays (Joyce), Tony Herrington (Brandy), Darrius Lewis, L.C. Wilkerson, sister-in-law, Patricia Washington (Hilton), six grandchildren, Ashley Mitchell, Maurice Hooker, Siyah Mitchell, Anthony Mitchell, Keo Coleman and Kristen Mitchell, three bonus grandchildren, Jayden, Cameron, and Khloe Shields, two step grandchildren, Skyler Hopkins and Jordyn McCloud, fourteen great grandchildren, special nieces and caregivers, Deshanna Simmons (Greg) and Chandra Duffey, special cousin, Mary Boyd, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Rosella Mitchell, son, Maurice Mitchell, Jr., sisters, Lois Wright and Frenchie Wilkerson and his grandparents, Dave and Henrietta Ross, Stokley and Easter Mitchell.
