In a small community of Camp County, in Pittsburg, Texas on Sunday, November 25, 1917, a baby girl was born to the late Charlie and Mary Frances Searcy-Bell. They named her Oma Delois Bell. She was the youngest of eight children.
Oma attended Garfield Elementary School in the Faker Community. After finishing the seventh grade, she walked eight miles one way to Frederick Douglas High School to further her education where she graduated in May of 1940.
Oma was united in marriage to the late Roosevelt Roney and to their union six children were born.
Oma became a member of St. Beulah C.M.E. Church in Pittsburg, Texas at an early age. After marriage, she joined Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cason, Texas. She was known as the Church Mother and served faithfully in various areas of ministry. Her roles included Mission Ministry Leader, Usher Ministry, Sunday School Teacher, and Prayer Warrior. She also served as Executive Secretary to the Northeast Texas Baptist Association. Oma was a food service worker for most of her life. She worked for Pilgrim’s Pride, Daingerfield ISD, and various nursing homes.
Oma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, first born daughter, Nettie Joyce, sisters: Irene, Rebecca, Susie, and Minnie; brothers: Rouie, Alvin, Lorenza Sr., and grandson Ronald Stewart.
Left to cherish Oma’s memory are daughters, Rose Marie Wilson of Los Angeles, CA, and Carolyn Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, TX; sons, Coy Lee Roney of Mt. Pleasant, TX, Edward Skip Roney of Longview, TX, and Jeffery Roney of Cason, TX; grandchildren: Robbie, Curtis Wayne, Donna, Sondra Elaine, Tianay, Curtis Jr., Dinah, Connie, Ivan, Joanna, Kendra Latreace, Kiarrah, Gregory, Andryah, Leah, Miles, Erykah, and Victoriah. Oma leaves several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
