Pastor Emeritus Jesse W. Mitchell passed away in Anchorage, Alaska, on Dec. 7, 2023. Jesse was born in Pittsburg, Texas, on Oct. 7, 1939, to Alton Dick and Eliza Mae (Cook) Mitchell.
On Dec. 7, 1961, Jesse married his childhood sweetheart, Lillian Johnson. That same year, he joined the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1981. In 1983, he became a part of the U.S. Postal Service and served for the next 20 years. He also served as a Pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Palmer, Alaska, for 19 years. Jesse was a man that loved serving God and his people and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Anchorage and in Palmer, NAACP and many other organizations. He was proud to have received the Ford Freedom Unsung Heroes Award and the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance Living Legend Award.
