Early Life & Education
Richard Marquette “Pain” Palmer was born with a spirit that would leave a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Raised in Pittsburg, Texas, Richard, affectionately known as “Marquette” by family grew into a young man full of energy, talent, and heart. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1983, where he quickly made a name for himself as an exceptional baseball player.
Baseball wasn’t just a sport to Richard—it was his passion and his pride. Those who watched him play often spoke of his natural talent, determination, and love for the game. He earned a scholarship to continue playing, a testament to both his skill and dedication. Even years later, he would reminisce about those days, sharing stories of big games, teammates who felt like brothers, and the joy he felt stepping onto the field.
Life Journey & Career
After graduation, Richard moved to Dallas, Texas, where he spent several years building his life and creating lasting friendships. His journey eventually led him to Nacogdoches, Texas, a place that would truly become home. It was there that he gained the nickname “Pain,”; a name that stuck with him and became a symbol of his bold personality and unforgettable presence.
Richard found steady employment with Pilgrim’s Pride, where he dedicated over 30 years of hard work and commitment. He took pride in providing for his family and was known among coworkers as dependable, strong, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His work ethic spoke volumes about his character—he showed up, gave his all, and never complained.
In 1995, Richard married Jimmie Palmer, and their union lasted until 2017. Through this marriage, he embraced a host of stepchildren whom he loved deeply and treated as his own. Family meant everything to Richard, and he made sure everyone around him felt that love.
Family & Relationships
Richard was a devoted father to his three children Rashaun Palmer, Lloyd Henry, & Tinaee Thomas. They will honor his memory along with his mother, Maria Waters, brothers Basil Mitchell and Rodney Palmer, sisters Latara Palmer and Angela Hopkins and stepmother Annie White. He was also a proud grandfather to Logan Pruitt.
One of Richard’s most cherished relationships was with his mother. He loved her deeply and made it a point to stay connected, often calling her just to play the song “Mama” by Boyz II Men—a simple but powerful gesture that showed his tenderness and appreciation. That song became more than music; it became a reflection of his love and gratitude.
Richard had a special place in his heart for children. Whether they were his own, his grandchildren, or kids in the community, he treated them with kindness, patience, and joy. He had a way of making children laugh, often joking, telling stories, or simply giving them his full attention.
Richard was preceded in death by his brothers Cecil Roland Palmer and Richard White Jr. and his granddaughter Taniyah Daniels.
