In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann Johnson Linwood
April 29, 1950 – April 23, 2025
Shirley Ann Johnson Linwood was born on April 29, 1950, to Rev. Millage Johnson and Mrs. Susie Johnson. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a source of unwavering warmth and strength to all who knew her.
Known for her kindness, generosity, patience, and sense of humor, Shirley had a gift for bringing joy and order to her home and to the lives she touched. She delighted in hosting family and friends, and found great happiness in cooking, crocheting, and sewing—always with love and creativity.
Shirley united in holy matrimony with James E. Linwood, and from this union, three children were born. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from East Texas State University and briefly worked as a dietician at Parkland Memorial Hospital. However, she chose to dedicate herself fully to her family as a homemaker, where she truly thrived.
With a heart full of faith and a home full of love, Shirley cultivated an environment where her family could grow, learn, and feel cherished. Her devotion to her husband, children, and extended family was steadfast. She offered childcare, financial support, and wise counsel whenever needed—always with grace, humility, and joy. Shirley was a faithful and active member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, where she served with the same love and commitment she showed at home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Johnson; her brothers, Millage and Oliver; and her granddaughter, Jalyn.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, James Linwood; her children, Shaurese Janelle Linwood, Angela Linwood Leighton (Algon), and James Christopher Linwood (Courtney); nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Her legacy of love, faith, and service lives on in every life she touched.
