Tommy D. was born in Pittsburg, Texas on July 30, 1957, to the parents of Tom Hopkins Jr. and Annie D. Hopkins. He confessed his faith in God at an early age and joined Pine Bluff First Baptist Church. Throughout his years of service, he participated in the youth choir, served as an usher and was a member of the board of trustees. He continued to be a faithful member until his death.
Tommy D. graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1975. He was employed by Lone Star Steel that following November and remained a dedicated employee for 41 years. He later moved his employment to The City of Mount Pleasant water department for the last 5 years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Nelda of 44 years; 3 children, Shaneque Hopkins of Longview, Texas, Chris Hopkins of Pittsburg, Texas and Keysha Hopkins of Dallas Texas; 2 grandchildren, Jordyn McCloud of Dallas, Texas and Skyler Hopkins of Mount Pleasant, Texas; sister, Barbara Burns of Pittsburg, Texas; brother, Calvin Hopkins (Angela) of Pittsburg, Texas; mother-in-law, Wanda Kennedy of Pittsburg, Texas; sister-in-law, Beverly Garrett (Troy) of Pittsburg, Texas; 2 loving godsons, Ja’Mir and Ja’Saiah Duffey of Pittsburg, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly. His parents, Tom Hopkins Jr. and Annie D. Hopkins preceded him in death.
