Wanda Kennedy Obituary

Wanda F.  Kennedy was born on August 2, 1939, in Pittsburg, Texas, to the late Isaiah and Maggie Hawkins. She received her education in the public schools of Pittsburg and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School, Pittsburg, Texas in 1958. At an early age, she professed her faith in Christ and became a devoted and faithful member of Pine Bluff First Baptist Church, where she remained steadfast in her commitment throughout her life.

Wanda was united in holy matrimony to Willie D. Kennedy, and to this union three children were born. She embraced her role as a devoted wife and loving mother, providing guidance, strength, and unwavering support to her family.

She was gainfully employed for many years, dedicating over twenty years of service to Golden Feast Poultry. She later continued her career at Mike Benet Formals, where she faithfully served for an additional twenty years. Her diligence, reliability, and strong work ethic earned her the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Wanda is preceded in death by her son, Chucky Kennedy; her parents, Isaiah and Maggie Hawkins; three sisters; five brothers; and her son-in-law, Tommy D. Hopkins.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two daughters, Nelda Hopkins and Beverly Garrett (Troy), both of Pittsburg, Texas; three granddaughters, Shaneque Hopkins of Longview, Texas, LaShantria Kennedy of Arlington, Texas, and Natasha Bass of Pflugerville, Texas; two grandsons, Keldrus Wallace of Pittsburg, Texas and Troy Garrett, Jr. of Austin, Texas; four great-granddaughters, Olivia Bass and Chelsea Bass of Pflugerville, Texas, and Jelani Garrett and Zharya Garrett of Austin, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Linda Kennedy of Pflugerville, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends; and a special great-great-great niece, Brookelyn Henderson, affectionately known as “White Baby,” of Pittsburg, Texas.

A special thanks of appreciation to Shirley Askew for her exceptional care, kindness, and for going above and beyond helping take care of Gran.

Wanda F.  Kennedy’s life was marked by faith, dedication, and enduring love for her family. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
